Denim de Toritama
Pernambuco's high-volume jeans cluster, where a small city produces a startling share of Brazil's denim.

Toritama is a small city in the Agreste that makes jeans at a scale out of all proportion to its size, largely through a network of family-run faccões working on short cycles.
The model's speed is real and so are its costs: informality, laundry effluent and volatile earnings have all followed the boom.
A newer generation of operators is formalising — contracts, water treatment, documented hours — because export buyers increasingly audit before they order.
For sourcing teams, Toritama answers a specific question: fast, high-volume denim with a domestic supply chain from fabric to finish. It does not answer a low-impact one yet.
